We feel it is our duty to help protect our customers and the general public against any scams that we hear about. Well, we heard about one first hand. We were sent a letter in the post and when we opened it realised the impact this could have on thousands of website owners.
The letter came from a company called ‘Domain Renewal Group’, which appears to originate from America. Previous names have been ‘Domain Registry of America’ and ‘Domain Registry of Canada’.
This type of scam unfortunately is not uncommon, and these people seem to keep on just moving areas and changing their name.
DO NOT fall for this scam. It is a fraudulent individual(s) who need to be traced and stopped before innocent web site owners are robbed and left feeling cheated and upset.
Our advice is if you receive any correspondence about your domain, contact the people who you paid when you purchased or renewed it with last time. They can offer you confirmation about the correspondence you have received. They can also confirm the ‘real’ expiry date of your domain. Do not send money or give your credit/debit card details to anybody without checking them out first.
We would love to hear from anyone else who has received this letter or similar stories, please get in touch.
